The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s Studies Foundation, Inc. (UPCWSFI) is a non-stock, non-profit organization that works closely and actively with the UP Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) in Diliman, Quezon City. Since its founding in 1992, the Foundation has supported the UPCWGS in conceptualizing and implementing a wide range of advocacy, research, training, and outreach programs advancing gender equality and feminist praxis
Over the years, the UPCWSFI has led and collaborated on pioneering research, capacity-building, and advocacy projects with the support of development partners such as Oxfam, Save the Children, COLLABDev, UNIFEM Bangkok, UNICEF, CIDA, UNFPA, and the World Bank. Groundbreaking initiatives like Intrafamily and Household Violence, Women-Centered Participatory Research and Development for Women’s Health, and the Comprehensive Capacity Development Project for Integrating Reproductive Health and Rights Principles into Sexuality Education Curricula—carried out in collaboration with the UPCWGS and supported by the Ford Foundation—have helped establish the Foundation’s reputation for feminist expertise and commitment.
Guided by holistic and participatory approaches, the Foundation uses feminist methodologies that center lived experiences. These methodologies have since been adopted and replicated by various government agencies, NGOs, and research institutions across the country.
